What drives me in my work are two things, turning challenges into solutions and sharing my experience to help others grow.
My first engineering challenge I can remember was building a box rail to use for when I used to skate. We definitely ticked the sturdy and robust requirements, the weight however, meant we didn’t take it far!
I have been fortunate enough, and it was fortune over skill, to play rugby 3 times at Twickenham and score twice. I have a video of one of them, ask me next time you see me!

What drives me is complexity. I’m drawn to systems where many moving parts interact, particularly in control, monitoring, and test environments. The more complex the system, the more interesting the problem.
My first engineering challenge was trying to reassemble my father’s spring-winding fly-fishing reel after taking it apart. I spent hours wrestling the spring back into the housing and never quite fixed it. My father never mentioned it. I was obsessed with understanding how things worked from an early age. Rewiring the electrics in my bedroom at thirteen was less well received.
I solve problems non-linearly. Insights often arrive when I’m not actively working on them, sometimes while focused on something entirely different. That non-linear thinking is what lets me see how disparate systems can be brought into a single, coherent solution.

What drives me is the challenge of designing to contract, with a focus on continuous improvement. Building elegant systems to meet complex requirements, ensuring the underlying architecture remains modular and clean.
My first engineering challenge came as part of my PhD, developing an AI-driven thermal analysis digital-twin, for condition monitoring of a 450MW steam turbine
Away from the office, I am currently trying to master Hangeul, part of an ongoing challenge to learn Korean.
